Scale Up Now 2026 was a program designed to support the internationalization of the Portuguese ecosystem. Promoted by Startup Portugal and Plug and Play, it aimed to prepare startups and scaleups to expand into the U.S. market. The program was open to participation from the entire Portuguese innovation ecosystem.

Over the course of two intensive days, Startup Portugal brought together more than 100 entrepreneurs – some of the brightest minds, ready to scale to the U.S. – for an intensive exploration of internationalization, with a strong focus on the U.S. market.

Demo Day: for the entire Portuguese startup ecosystem
- Goal: Demo Day featuring 12 startups competing for 5 spots in Plug and Play’s GOAL program, followed by networking and a celebration of Portuguese startup talent and innovation.

All sessions will be held in English.
On the first two days, January 19 and 20 2026, the sessions will be especially aimed at entities connected to Portugal’s innovation and technology ecosystem, such as incubators, accelerators, investors, companies with innovation departments, and other organizations contributing to the sector’s development.
On the following days, January 21 and 22 2026, the agenda will focus on startups, preparing them for expansion to the United States. Topics will include market access, legal support, business culture, mentorship, and other essential tools for internationalization.
The program ends with a Demo Day on January 23 2026, where 12 startups, previously selected according to the program’s regulations, will present their projects. Five of them will be awarded direct entry into Plug and Play’s GOAL program in the United States, as well as the opportunity to participate in a major innovation and technology conference in Silicon Valley, San Francisco.
The program was fully in-person at Startup Portugal’s headquarters in Lisboa (Pavilhão de Portugal).
From January 19 to 22 2026, the program ran from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM, and on January 23 2026, the event took place from 9:00 AM to 2:00 PM.
However, the first two days were dedicated to incubators, accelerators, investors, and companies, the following two days to startups, and the final day featured a Demo Day, where 12 startups pitched for a chance to join Plug and Play’s soft-landing program in the United States in 2026..
