Position
Legal & Policy Counsel
Startup Portugal is a non-profit organization whose mission is to carry out public-interest activities aimed at promoting entrepreneurship, in close collaboration with public and private entities within the national entrepreneurship ecosystem. We support the Government in creating and implementing the National Strategy for Entrepreneurship and oversee the design and implementation of public policies, such as RRF, to support startups and entrepreneurship both nationally and internationally.
Startup Portugal's activities are carried out across various economic sectors, relying on the support of diverse entities and partners—public and private—including entrepreneurs, startups, incubators, investors, companies, academia, and governmental organizations. These efforts aim to develop initiatives that contribute to the growth of the startup ecosystem and foster a stronger entrepreneurial culture in the country.
You will be part of the Legal & Public Policies team, working as a Legal & Policy Counsel responsible for:
- Drafting, reviewing, and negotiating all types of contracts;
- Providing legal support to the Association's various departments;
- Drafting internal policies and procedures required for compliance;
- Offering legal assistance in public procurement procedures;
- Advising various governing bodies and drafting all necessary corporate acts and documents;
- Ensuring compliance with data protection and personal data processing policies, as well as responding to requests from data subjects;
- Providing information and other elements to external lawyers;
- Analyzing and drafting relevant proposals to the Portuguese entrepreneurial ecosystem;
- Participating in working groups aimed at studying, amending, or implementing any legislative or regulatory reforms;
- Monitoring the legal procedure of Startups and Scaleups’ recognition;
- Monitoring the IFICI’s registration procedure;
- Following legislative developments at the European level;
- Promoting coordination, cooperation, and collaboration with international entities and agents;
- Representing Portugal in ESNA and actively contributing to its initiatives regarding European public policies in favor of entrepreneurship.
- Full-time open-ended contract;
- Hybrid workplace and schedule flexibility to be determined with the rest of the team.
Requirements
- Bachelor's and Master's degrees in Law from a top university;
- Minimum of 1 year of professional experience in the Compliance field;
Skills
- Good knowledge of various MS Office and GSuite Tools;
- Proficiency in spoken and written English;
- Strong sense of responsibility and organization;
- Initiative, work ethic, and interpersonal skills.
